We were privileged to hear Dr Noorah Al Gailani, Curator of
Islamic Art, talk about these carpets. Carpets in the collection come from such
diverse countries as China, Anatolia, India, Turkestan and Afghanistan. The
lecture was illustrated with many colourful images and then we were able to see
some precious fragments of carpet from the stores. To add
to our tour, we were shown some of the prayer rugs currently on display at the
Burrell.
