What we did in 2014-15

Once again the Friends have approved a number of Grants towards the acquisitions of works of art and have supported various other projects carried out by Glasgow Museums.

£10,000 was granted towards the purchase of the Robert Salmon painting of shipping on the Clyde. A contribution of £6,500 was given towards the publication of a book by Fred Farrell, the First World War artist, in conjunction with an exhibition of his work at the Peoples’ Palace. The purchase of the John Knox painting of “Glasgow Fair” was aided by a grant of £20,000.The Boppard Stained Glass Windows at the Burrell are undergoing conservation and the Friends gave a grant of £8,500 towards the purchase of new frames.

The Friends have also agreed to pay the following grants:£7,000 from the Camphill Fund towards the cost of the Costume Exhibition; £3,500 towards the cost of the Angels’ Exhibition at the Museum of Religious Life and £950 towards the cost of setting up a web site for the Children’s Art Competition, which is over and above the £1,944 which is paid for the engraving and prizes.
